Happy Hallowe'en! jalaperilo November 1 2011, 18:53:24 UTC
The health and safety brigade is even scarier than the little monsters that were out last night!

We had two turn up at Ma's house. We reckon we had more, but the door bell is too high for the little ones to notice, lol.

We had parkin. :P Bakery bought cause mam wasn't well, but still good. I'm definately gonna perfect a recipe and send you some!

Yeah, what is it with overzealously-protective parents? They seem to rejoice in sucking the fun out of their children's lives. :p I suppose trick-or-treating is going the way of Christmas caroling, which was one of my favorite childhood activities... 'Tis a shame.

Parkin! Gimme! I should learn how to make it myself, but I've discovered, much to my dismay, that baking is a dicey thing at my altitude. I'm not an inept baker, but anything that has to be even slightly cakey/bready just doesn't seem to work very well up here. :P Ah well, that one bad thing about living at high altitude is greatly outweighed by all the good things, I guess. A massively efficient cardiovascular system that can run on even when there's only one or two oxygen molecules present is a nice thing to have. *laughs*

I'm at sea level, so I have no excuse for crap baking. I've tried my hand at parkin a few times, but it's a bit sub-standard. I can't get the oats and treacle right. Slowly getting better at it though, whereas if I make brownies a lot they get poorer in quality, so that's a once in a while thing. Fudge was an epic fail. I make a beautiful victoria sponge cake (which it so simple, it's idiot-proof so it's not really an achievement)

I only had one family (three trick or treaters, but they were all baby cousins) come to my house, but my excuse is that I live in the sticks, not parental apathy.

Should've asked the oldest if he was Ozzie Smith (dressed as a Cardinals player) and watched the confusion commence. He's 8, wouldn't have a clue.

I made up bags for trick-or-treaters. I gave out two yesterday for two of the neighbor kids. One's about ready to have a baby so I technically only got ONE trick-or-treater myself.

I'm too far out in the country.

I had quite a few, and had fun sitting in my 'suit on my porch unmoving and scaring the everliving DAYLIGHTS outta them when they took candy outta the bowl on my lap. I was mostly pretty gentle about it, except for the little sh*ts who tried to grab handfuls instead of one piece as my sign asked.

After a couple of hours, though, I got cold, tired, and my contacts were *killing* me, so I called it quits.
