I compromised on the kitchen (which is not absolutely unworkable, but still) because almost the entire front wall of the apartment (incl. my bedroom) is huge windows. we didn't know, until too late, that the specific unit we'd be getting was facing in the wrong direction to get most of the natural light. This complex as a whole won out over others because we have gas stoves here. The stove almost completely makes up for the kitchen size, but the utterly stupid management was not evident until we'd moved in, and that's the thing I hate most.
aww... I'm sorry- I love my place (which is why Mitchell will be moving there, and not the otherw ay around) something breaks, it's fixed the day i call... I go into the office, they know me by name and apartment number... I just really love it there... kitchen isnt GREAT, but they did the CLEVER thing and put the sink at the END of the counter, so I have a pretty good expanse of counter space. Only drawback- not a lot of overhead lights- in fact, only in dining room, bath, laundry and kitchen... but i DO have a den- with built in bookshelves!

course, most apartment kitchens look tiny compared to your LAST one!
