Well, I have been fired by my neurologist

May 07, 2012 16:01

I started seeing my (now former) neurologist at the end of '06.  Pretty much the only positive thing I can say about him is that he filled out the RFC which allowed me to get disability.  Other than that, however ( Read more... )

wtf? i know that the last neuro i saw just blew me off when they found the group of cysts and said they are nothing and new neuro is freaking out about them and is convinced that is what is causing all the issues i am having.

everything probably happened for the best. a doctor that does not listen is the worst kind there is. such a jerk.

What a lovely man. I hate it that when an articulate and intelligent patient (and possibly because you're one of the female variety) asks a doctor intelligent questions about their treatment, it's seen as a challenge to his godlike authority. You're probably a lot better off without him. Good luck on finding a new one and with your treatment.

Yeah, that was always the issue with this guy. As long as I nodded, smiled and agreed with everything he said, we got along great. The second I introduced a new idea, or disagreed with something he said, that apparently made me, in his eyes, a "difficult" patient.

I'm actually getting better medical treatment at one of the city clinics than I did with my private doctor. I haven't brought up my back yet, though. My last doctor said he didn't like to authorize back surgery for people my age, because the surgery might work, but it might make things worse. So, what? he authorizes tests for older people whose immune systems aren't as strong? My last doctor was like that too. He kept saying "you claim to have pain". No, guy, I'm telling you that I have pain because I HAVE pain. I'll stick to the woman doctor at the clinic. She, at least, is willing to talk to me about treatment for my fibromyalgia, like maybe it's actually real.
I hope you find better doctors with your husband's new insurance.

I emailed a neurologist in the Med Ctr last night. She was kind enough to get back to me this morning. As it turns out, she's not the doctor I should see, but she was kind enough to give me the name of another neurologist. I emailed him; now I'm just waiting to hear from him or his staff.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

I was lucky in that the NS I saw I totally want to keep, he's the first to even tell me since my last revision what my shunt even *is*. He didn't want to mess with the settings at first, but after I explained that the popping and clicking happened every day, followed by pain, he changed his mind. And it's not like I didn't see it from his point of view, I know it's hard to get the setting just right.

I'm assuming there's a lot more to the story than this... sounds like there's a history of you questioning his judgment.
