5... apologies for godmode!! stabilimentum March 31 2011, 04:54:29 UTC
[Being committed to nirvana isn't all that different from getting married forever. It's based on a contract; Alois still has that ring. This isn't holy matrimony, but it isn't dark either. To Claude, it feels like something in the middle--hazy and grey, like a fairy tale forest at dawn. It feels like the forest they're sitting in, all ashen and damp with soft light filtering in through the branches. They don't have a house with a white picket fence or 2.5 children, but that doesn't matter when they have each other. (Hannah and Luca factor in somewhere, but it's easy to forget about them when they aren't there.)

Right now, Claude is making a genuinely playful swipe for the glasses that Alois just swiped from his face. He lifts his hand up and suddenly thinks, I should gouge your eyes out for all of this.

He tastes blood. There isn't any. His smile slips slightly.]

Master.

[The favored, the favorite. There are different kinds and levels of love; Jim Macken was Luca's Highness, but Claude takes that title for Alois Trancy. They are all happy together, and the brothers are fiercely dedicated, but Hannah's love for Luca is fathoms and fathoms deep, while Alois' love for Claude can cause such frightening shockwaves of pain if left unchecked. It's not too surprising, then, that they have their share of pairing-off time.

Alois doesn't catch the slip, right now. By this point, wrapped in cloudy nirvana as he is, that sort of thing is actually more or less incomprehensible to him. He's addled by the fog of blissful adoration.]

You'll have to try harder to catch them, Claude.

[It's teasing, but sweet. Alois turns the spectacles around and rests them against the bridge of his own nose, before he's giggling and peering up through plain glass.]

[His glasses do magnify the world, but not by very much. They're correcting some tiny, imaginary defect; they're part of the illusion that is known as Claude Faustus. All of Alois' illusions persist here in nirvana, but Claude feels like he's seeing past most of them now. He looks around himself, at the forest surrounding them, and he sees past the fairy tale imagery for once... to something far less idyllic than he remembers. Spider webs hang everywhere--thousands of them--and they should be stretching infinitely every which way, shining with dew, ready for honest faces. Instead, he sees gray, dry strands that are drifting in air that's long since gone stagnant. The grass is very dead, too. The soil is diseased. The trees are bending and breaking with disease in many and black rot in most ( ... )

[Alois has stopped smiling, but it's only to look wondering. The glasses slip down the bridge of his nose.] Are you tired, Claude?

[It's a surprise, to imagine that. Has he gotten tired, during his time here? He can't remember when they came to this particular place- can't remember how they got here- but 'fatigue' isn't something he recalls since settling down beneath the forest canopy with his Claude. He doesn't need to gasp for breath, in this place. (What's funny about that is Hannah's lack of need for oxygen - and even the same for Claude - had frightened him, sent him into fits. When has he begun swimming in what he'd hated? Does he even realize? He doesn't.) His muscles don't burn and his body doesn't scream. Claude can carry him anywhere, but if he feels like it, Alois can walk and walk and walk.

Can Claude really know what tired is like, when his master's forgotten? Alois takes the glasses off of his face, and pinches both arms between his fingers.]

Is there a new game you'd rather play? [Perhaps they've played every game ( ... )
