...It's done by the performer of the Sacraments in order to assume a sacrosanct form. So that the ritual can continue.

But the Assumption Ceremony has to be done first. And unless the required items are available here, it wouldn't have been possible.

What was needed?

There were five deaths. Six, actually, but two of them had no numbers. Four people were killed and engraved with numbers on them. Maybe they were distractions so the real killer could do something else.

They'd need the Order's scripture. And the white chrism, obsidian goblet, and ten hearts. He has the hearts. If he hasn't found the other elements, there may still be a chance.
