I would like to first apologize for the inappropriateness of this question, but in light of recent events, I'm afraid my curiosity has gotten the better of me ( Read more... )

Not everyone can be uninhibited when they're sober, in response to the whole appeal thing.

A lot of times it's just because you can, from what I've seen. But mostly for the lack of inhibitions.

I see. If you don't mind my continuing to bother you, wherein lies the appeal of a lack of inhibitions, as you put it? I can merely see that being somewhat uncomfortable later.

i am kind of shrieking at that icon. SO CUTE. growuptoofast January 16 2009, 03:29:01 UTC
Not caring what people think about you, not feeling like anyone cares how you're acting? And not having to watch your every move or feel responsible for slipping up or disappointing someone.

It's a short-term freedom.

uhhhhm, yeah i kind of flailed and wibbled for like ten minutes after seeing/finding it. trapmeister January 16 2009, 03:34:52 UTC
I can see where, were that an overarching emotion/reaction caused by the imbibing of alcohol, that would be appealing. But as senses seem to return, so far as I can tell, wouldn't it merely result in an even deeper hole, so to speak? I'm sorry for questioning you, you're merely the only person thus far to give a straight answer. Though I didn't really expect otherwise.

So are you all held back or just doing some good ol' underage drinking?

I'm sorry, I'm merely curious. It's been such a steady topic lately that it piqued my interest on a sadly academic level. I do not believe I am a very interesting person, as such.

Do you think you have to drink to be interesting?

trapmeister January 16 2009, 03:30:13 UTC
No. But I believe I may be so wholly uninteresting that the concept of drinking is only appealing to me on an academic and studious manner. Perhaps "uninteresting" is not the correct word, though I am hard-pressed to conceive of a better one.

If you are uncomfortable replying, I apologize. My intention was not to off-put anyone.

Well...Uh...Mainly? I do it for fun. Cause other people are there. You know?

I like it, but it's kinda only fun to drink with friends. Because then either you're a little crazy, or you get to watch people be a little crazy. It's fun.

I see. I suppose I hadn't considered the social aspect outside of lowered inhibitions. Though, again, the appeal in lowering inhibitions around friends still confuses me fairly.

It's a lot easier to get a group to do silly things when drunk.

That and when you have a bunch of people with lowered inhibitions things can get fun...Or there are fights...one of the two.

Do you mean "amusing" when you say "fun"? Because I believe that, were you not to be the one with lowered inhibitions doing something silly, that might be fairly accurate.

I don't really understand it either.

I believe I have a bit more of an understand now than I did previously, however.

Really? Ah, can you explain it to me then?

The apparent appeal of losing one's inhibitions is stronger than I had previously thought. The old adage of "liquid courage" seems to remain the primary reason for doing such things.
