Personally, we're all selfish on some level. I think it's a part of our nature to be selfish at times. Question is...when we are selfish, does it affect others? Does it hurt others?

I admit I'm selfish in some areas. However, my selfishness certainly as hell don't hurt anyone else but myself and I make sure it doesn't. I don't like to hurt others to begin with. Not to mention, not to add religion into this, my deity wouldn't be too happy with me if I did anything that would hurt others..whether it was intentional or not. However, if I do something that hurts others (especially intentionally), it's important that I realize I did in order to accept responsibility for my actions and ask forgiveness to those that I hurt.

To me, you're a wonderful person and I think it's awesome that you're a nurse that does help others and make decisions that most of us wouldn't want to make. It takes a lot to be someone that can deal with death and help save life, and I respect that a lot in people like you.
