Angelic Layer reminds me of Beyblade, more than anything. It was cute, I guess, for a run-of-the-mill sports/tournament series. Weird ending, and that epilogue bit that went "well, nothing really changed ever since the series ended but everybody got together" was... really not necessary, jeez (according to Wiki, I now need to watch the anime in order to see Tamayo and Kotaro get together. And hey, more Icchan and Ogata is never a bad thing). It is kind of depressing to think about how a couple of characters are very, very dead in Chobits, and now I kind of want to re-read that one just to see more of the universe. Because I really do think that this could have been a considerably non-annoying five-hundred-episode long anime about EPIC FASHION DOLL BATTLES, given the chance.
Even if the absolutely best part of reading was the "Angelic Layer Daily News" excerps in the beginning. That's right, Duklyon! Real winners have a life! And CCS should have had an episode in which we see Yukito winning the Gyoza-eating contest we all know he did EVERY YEAR.
