...so i've kinda been thinking about getting into cycling in Hitachinaka. nothing serious or anything-- i know i'll never get into it as a sport or whatever, but yeah... i used my bike all the time in Kochi to get from A to B. i'm thinking that in Hitachinaka, once i have money to spare, i may invest in a decent beginner's bike just to ride for ( Read more... )

Fun fact: Eating Vegemite keeps mosquitoes away as they hate Vitamin B. Start taking supplements? Or shall I send you a jar of the black goo once you are there? Goes great in miso soup....

I used to go on crazy rural rides in Japan. It wasn't awesome fun, I explored half my prefecture that way! And I did it on a cheap mama -chan.

thanks for the tip, but i'd rather just eat lots of garlic or onions.... i hear that works too. ;)

and vegemite in miso soup....?? barf!

and lol... you must've been in hella good shape/have hella good endurance to explore that much on a mama bike. glad to hear it was awesome, though. :)

I miss my bicycle! :(
It was stolen right from the backyard of my apartment although almost no people ever pass by and it was locked on top of it.
In my current situation it would be stupid to buy another one.

I think it's always great to have a bicycle especially in the rural areas of Japan! :)

I've only ever had issues with mosquitoes in the summer of 2010. No idea why.
And I do travel a lot in summer. This year in Okinawa there were a lot, but they stayed away from me for most of the time. There are so many measures you can take, sprays, wrist bands etc. ! :)

i'm sorry to hear about your bike. i wonder if i invest in a good bike, would it be worth lugging it up into my apartment rather than leaving it locked up below. :/

lucky! :( @mosquitoes

it seems like in every foreign country, whether it be Japan or Australia, my blood is considered a delicacy to the local mosquitoes. i mean, my ex could be standing right next to me the whole time and get only 1 bite and i'd get 5. :(

but yeah.... i learned the hard way when i was in Japan before that i can't go anywhere without tons of spray and crap on me. :( it's such a pain...
