When you get comfortable,then tell them to be quiet. And then look them in the face--and not just in the face, in the eyes. :)
Maybe they're testing you, maybe they're just used to being brats, but I'd say it's better to be firm in the beginning than to have a NIGHTMARE for your entire time there.
Or maybe you can bond with the teachers by talking about the kids, LOL. (but don't make it seem like the teachers failed at doing their job)

i doubt the boys will be intimidated at all by giving them the stare/gaz treatment. but i'll try, once i'm not so new. i think they've just always been that way, though. the JTE handled them as if they were always the trouble makers. :shrugs:
i don't think they're trying to tune me out in particular because they say hi to me and such outside of class. i guess they're just attention whores who like having the attention of their peers. >_>; so i doubt they'll stop... but i'll deal with it. :p
