Last week, Vitaly Shafirov uploaded 5 videos to Youtube covering Yuriy Norshteyn's 1999 appearance at the Klasky Csupo studio:
(Shafirov is an emigrant from the Soviet Union, although the only film I could find him credited for is as an animator on this one)

В 1998( или 1999?) году на фестивале в Тарусе Ю.Б. Норштейн давал мастер-класс, где показывал, как он работает с перекладкой, на примере своего фильма «Шинель» К тому времени было готово 6 минут фильма. It was great!

Ну, значит есть прогресс! Правда, я где-то читал что в 1986 году было готово уже 10 минут...

I believe I have seen his name in the credits of one of the "ЛИФТ" series. Number 3 if I remember correctly. He worked with Kovalyov here and they both ended up at KC.

There is a Norshteyn interview in Seance magazine (no 39-40) with Anna Izakar entitled Как сделана "Шинель". Haven't got round to read it in any detail yet but can try to summarise it if it's of any interest.

I don't know this magazine myself - I noticed that they post some of their articles online but this one's not up there. Sure, please let me know if there's anything interesting. I'm especially curious about how much is actually completed (Norshteyn has studiously been avoiding speaking about that for a while now).
