Dear Friends,
Has anyone ever applied for a design patent before? If so, would you care to meet up with me sometime and walk me through the process?

XO,
Nifer

I have been given to understand that applying for a patent is a painful, expensive process. Last time I remember hearing a number attached, it was 30k in the US alone; getting it recognized in all the harmonized countries cost more like $100k.

But writing out your claims can be an entertaining process.

You're confusing a design patent with a utility patent. Design patents should be considerably cheaper, as the claim language is generally set by form and its the drawings themselves that specify the invention.

Go to the USPTO.gov website... used to do it a while back for a law firm. Not that hard, but can add up depending on all that you want (but not anything near 100k - wink).
