That time I saw Kaner (and Sharpy and Seabs and Shawsy and the rest of the Blackhawks) in person

Mar 29, 2012 00:40

So puckling and I arrived at the Prudential Center, aka the Devils' Den (HAHAHAHA OH DEVILS), around an hour before the official game time because I wanted us to stalk Kaner up close admire the players' skills during pre-game practice. After we bought our overpriced beverages, we found our seats and took in our view.

NB: I apologize for the quality of the ( Read more... )

Also, the Devils' crowd chant after a goal is apparently "YOU SUCK," so lolariously classy.

THEY ARE FROM NEW JERSEY WHAT DO YOU EXPECT.

Everything about this brings me GREAT JOY except for how without Puckling you almost forgot to bring me pictures of Sharpy who as you know is my FAVORITE HUMAN. Also, KANER LOVES BABIES!!! TINY LITTLE PEEWEE HOCKEY PLAYERS!!!! No lie, that's the MOST exciting thing. I remember once when I still was under the delusion that, at 4'11", I could play basketball, the women's team at BU, I think, was playing UConn, and we got to play at halftime on the HUGE COURT with the BRIGHT LIGHTS. MOST EXCITING EVERRRRR. But even less structured and more full of fail than a usual eight year old's basketball game.

You hatred of Jersey is so delightfully heartwarming. :D Like I said, it was a weirdly subdued crowd. After the game, a woman (with cup of beer in hand) even yelled at us that we were being too quiet and, "You'd think we hadn't just won a hockey game!" I mean, puckling and I were sad b/c the Hawks lost, not sure what the Devils' fans' excuse was.

And Kaner aside, that peewee hockey "game" (more like them attempting to move verrrrrrry slowly from one end of the ice to the other) was totally the highlight of the night for me. <3

SO MANY FEELS. SO MANY FOR HOBBIT KANER.

Also I totally thought we were standing behind those girls, but I guess there must have been two sets of people with signs. ALSO TINY HOCKEY PLAYERS. PLAYING HOCKEY. SLOOOOOOOWLY.

TINY ADORABLE HUMANS PLAYING HOCKEY AWWWW.

ALSO KANER, WHO IS MUCH THE SAME.

Ugh I want to go to a live game so bad. It will happen!

Take a pic of the lesser Staal for me too and report if Caps fans are anywhere near as bad as Jets fans when mocking the Staals (he's a d-man, so maybe not as much). (Also, Jets fans just suck.)

Kaneeeeeeer.

I want you to go to a Carolina game one day and report on the beauty of Estaal and bb Jeff. :D

OH MEI IT WAS SO MAGNIFICENT. EXCEPT FOR HOW IT MADE ME REALIZE HOW FUCKING GONE I AM OVER PATRICK KANE OF ALL PEOPLE. DDDDD:

Take a pic of the lesser Staal for me too

Will do! Though not sure if we'll be down by the Rangers' side of the ice. I'm going with a HUGE Ovie fan. :D

Oh god, bb, one day we will go to a Canes game together and witness The Dimple in person.

You have no idea how much I want to make this reality!

Maybe I'll go up to NY next season for when the Canes play the Rangers and/or Devils? Oh Canes, next season will be different.

it's MUCH easier to follow the game in person than on TV. I always knew where the puck was and could note the line changes much better. This is what I have doubts about. Half the time I don't even see the puck going in and need the replay. But I suppose that's done on the Jumbotron? And it would be really nice to see the line changes. Could you see Q? I always wonder if he's telling them things a lot, or just mostly watching the game inscrutably.

...sports shenanigans, like driving two cars out onto the ice with skimpily clad "Devils Dancers" on them. This is one thing I can't tell from TV games (probably also because I watch illegal feeds that blackout during any breaks): what are those women doing? Are they cheerleaders? Are they standing up somewhere waving pompons around when they're not shoveling snow off the ice?

Still, it was a good game, though slightly anemic at times, especially in the first period. Yeah, my heart was kind of sinking and I wondered if we were facing another 6-1 debacle. But then we started getting some ( ... )

Yay, so glad you enjoyed this, bb! :D :D

I think the TV makes the puck harder to track because they're following the action along instead of having a stationary camera. And there's a lot of glare off the ice and the players' equipment on TV, whereas in person - at least from where we were sitting - I always knew where the puck was. Unfortunately, couldn't see coach Q though the few times I glanced at the bench, he seems to be just chillin'. :)
