Ok, so this week was Semana Santa (lit: Holly Week but is like a way to celebrate Easter) so there were more like a 1000 processions all around this ridiculously insignificant country. This is our most religious celebration
(
since x-mas is used to praise Santa Clause instead. Moi Moi! )

I love the Easter Bunny just as much as the next person, but I'm still glad that people out there see Easter as a religious holiday to be celebrated.
Especially what you said about the flower carpet. Is there any background story as to how this tradition started?
I'LL TRADE YOU MY CANADIAN WEATHER FOR THE EL SALVADOR WEATHER ANYDAY. It sounds so nice and . . . warm. * __ *
Well, nice with the exception of the sunburns and the nosebleeds. I hope they go away for you! And I'm sorry to hear that your Easter week didn't turn out so great for you. ; _ ;

EASTER BUNNY PWNS MY SOUL!!!
Yes there is, a very large one (at least for LJ):
Basically comes from when Jesus entered in Jerusalem the people who recieved Him extended cloaks (like carpets) and threw flowers. It came from Spain where it was very popular around XIV century specially in the Canary Islands Tenerife and Gomera.
The "franciscanos" were the ones in charge of the evangelism in Guatemala and one of them was Don Pedro de Betancourth who was from Villa Flor, Tenerife. So that's how the tradition was brought here, however, new content and characteristics were added which made them guatemalan and part of our very own tradition and culture besides of the fact that the mayan people already made carpets of pine leafs, flowers and feathers.
C-CA-CANADA?!!! HELL YES!!!!!! You don't know how much I want to go there! ♦.♦
Yeah, I was expectig something else but... oh well, it's over anyway.
