It is time... Time for a discussion!

So, I was chatting with zphal_girl87 about a few things and she suggested that I post a discussion about it because I guess I was getting into it. Ahaha. So... Here I am. Maybe I'll actually write something someday so that I can have more to contribute to the community as well, since it's been kind of slow lately. But anyway... I'm getting off-topic ( Read more... )

RAWR RAWR RAWR.

Oh yeah, it's totally hilarious when Nick thinks he's hot shit and then... Well, he's not. XD That makes it even better.

You and your Nick-addled mind. XD I think that yeah, Ellis might like cars and such, but he's not OMG OBSESSED with them like some other people think.

Hahaha, you were in suspense? Oh my. ;D

I like the ideas you presented. :) Now that you mention it, Nick does get portrayed as the all-knowing gambler a lot in fic... It's surprising considering a lot of his in-game humor comes from him having a tough-guy ego BUT getting teased for it (or poop on his suit). So IMPO Nick thinks he's an awesome gambler, but probably got in deep shit (criminal history) 'cause he really isn't. And is really touchy about that. As for Ellis, I see him as a guy that enjoys any simple pleasure, and he attached to the Jimmy Gibbs/Midnight Riders stuff to cheer himself up in the goddamn zombie apocalypse n' shit.

I could be way off, I've never been good at interpreting characterization. I'm always awestruck by valve's writing team... they can give us so little info about these characters and I still love them so much.

Totally agreeing with you here. ^_^

And yeah, vALVE never fails to impress me with their writing. In pretty much all of their games. It's amazing. <3

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing too, as to why Nick went to Savannah of all places. I mean, I don't know a whole lot about the whole gambling scene down there, but I wouldn't think it would be super attractive to people looking to make some serious bucks down there. Thanks for enlightening me on the whole Gulf Coast gambling scene, because I really had no idea. Ahaha.

And I had no idea about the auto mechanic programs in Savannah, that's another interesting thing to know. ^__^ But yeah, agreeing with you that he may love cars, but not love cars. Haha.

I have to say that I agree, Nick isn't the best conman in the world. It would be boring if he was. Plus, if he were, he probably wouldn't be in Savannah. It's a nice city and all, I love going up to visit when I can afford to make the trip, but for what he is and what he does, it doesn't seem like the spot that a master gambler would go to if he was looking to make a significant amount of money. There are better choices relatively close by. The riverboat circuit? Yeah right, Nick. Let's be real here, sweetie ( ... )

That all sounds pretty good to me. :3 But yeah, Nick would totally be boring if he was perfect at what he did, then he'd be falling into Gary Stu territory. And we don't want that!!

Ahahaha. I've lived down here in North Carolina for over 10 years now, and I dread it whenever I hear some sort of Southern twang come out from my voice, despite other people saying that it's cute. ^_^;;

I personally find a lot of amusement imagining that Nick likes to talk big and act tough but isn't really as good as he thinks he is. I think he's good at hustling pool and alright with reading/manipulating people but has to just rely on his luck (which is often poor) for poker and other gambling. His conning is small time stuff so he won't draw too much attention to himself as he slips from place to place, he's able to turn on the charm and charisma when he needs to get people to trust him but there are also sometimes when he just completely blows it and gets his ass kicked for scamming someone ( ... )

Can't find anything wrong there with those reasonings. :3

I kind of like the idea of Nick being a military brat, I don't think I've heard that one before. And it would make sense, what with the way he doesn't really trust other people and works on his own and all that.

Yeah, I can see Ellis having an affinity towards vehicles in general, but not in that way. XD
