Methos sighs to himself as he stuffs his hands in his coat pocket. The days were getting shorter and it was getting colder. Methos had always preferred the cold to the heat.

Cold face and colder eyes were the last thing they ever saw. No human warmth.

Is that the reason why he was infactuated with his Brother? Kronos seemed cold and distant like the approaching winter? Was there a stronger bond between them? He needed to ask him a lot of questions and so he comes up to Kronos and simply asks, "Did you become stronger after the horsemen?"

His eyes are cold.

It's the first thing you notice when you come closer. Before you even notice the prominent scar, or the madman's smirk, or the chain he's holding in his hands, swinging it lazily. Before it all registers, there are his *eyes*.

Blue or grey, you can't be sure. And although there is humour in them, amusement, it's a scary kind and there are miles of ice behind it. And somewhere beyond that, far beyond, there might be a hint of warmth. [old ficlet that i was reminded of]

"I had to," he says simply. Had to become stronger to compensate for the other three who were no longer with him. Had to be strong to be the only leader. Had to be strong not to fall apart when his entire world, everything he'd known, was taken away from him.Had to direct his heat and passion towards other goals; well, the same goal, really, but it felt so different alone. And it never felt the same with any other group he assembled ( ... )

He looks down at him for a long moment not quite sure how to answer that. He could lie to him. Methos could tell him that the Horsemen broke him and turned him into the softhearted bastard that he is today. That was a blatant lie and they both knew it.

He sits next to him and says softly, "Yes, I became stronger after the horsemen. I had to be." That was the truth. Methos took everything that he was taught from the horsemen and used that to make him a stronger individual.

He was a survivor after all.

"Strong is a good look on you," Kronos says quietly.
