You liked Eldest? I had read Eragon, and was not very impressed, so I didn't read the other one. I can accept that the kid is only 15, so therefore his style is unrefined, but I've also heard Paolini say that he doesn't think he needs any kind of writing classes - that he thinks his writing is on par with more established authors. That kind of arrogance put me off, so I haven't read anything else by him. But now that you've said it was ok, maybe I'll have to pick up the second book.
I like the story more than the writing, definitely. :) I hadn't heard the bit from Paolini, which definitely makes me want to slap him upside the head. I think it took Eragon a while to get published, or so I'm guessing based on what the blurb at the back of Eldest says, so I'm pretty sure he was closer to twenty when he wrote Eldest (or at least, when it was edited/finalized). Some of the arrogance definitely creeps through (you're not Tolkien, dude, so quit with the "ooh, I made a language!" crap already), but yeah, the story is pretty good. I'd say definitely give it a shot, but wait until it's in paperback to save the $$$. *g*
