well, first, brush all the snow off the car. :D (brush it off the roof, too, otherwise as soon as you start driving it will slide onto the back window and you won't be able to see. and that sucks.) is it safe to assume you don't have a snow shovel? uh... go slowly. if you feel yourself starting to skid, turn into the direction you're skidding. don't panic. it looks like someone's already driven down the street, so if you can just follow the tracks that are already there you should be ok.
(just wait - the first time it snows here people will freak the fuck out, as if we don't get the same weather every year.)
People are *so* excited about the snow here... most of the public transport network has packed up and it's the only thing on the news!
I'm mostly worried about getting the car over the pavement and off the curb - I'll probably need to shovel some of the snow out of my way. No snow shovel unfortunately! I'll have to try to do the manoeuvre when there aren't many other cars around. As you say though, once I get into the ruts I should be fine. Hopefully!
and i'm all excited for you! (well, "you" being "londoners". altho the travel disruptions are kind of a pain in the butt....) it's early enough in the season that i don't care if someone else is getting our snow, as long as it's snowing somewhere. *packs a snowball*
we've had a good foot of snow here and it's still comming down...
I swept the loose snow off with a stiff broom and then covered out drive way in a load of table salt, not convinced it would do anything at all but 10 mins later it's worked really well, all the ice was melted. :)
