In October of 2002, Karina and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with a vacation not far from our apartment in the Bronx: up the Hudson River valley, through tiny Hudson River towns, west to the Shawangunk Mountains, and ending a week later in the piny hilltops of the Delaware Water Gap. A great fall trip: chilly, leafy, brisk. We ( Read more... )

Twenty-three years is a blessed long run, but not long enough. Also, what you wrote is very good.

Thanks, I am not sure if I did justice to the tale, surely there is so much more to say, but I wanted to capture the memory of the moment before it's gone for good.

Great story! BTW, in reading it I suddenly thought of the tremendous contrast between him in real life as you so carefully and wonderfully described him, and Freddie Miles, the character he played in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Absolutely and utterly convincing, and chilling. On the boat: "Tommy. How's the peeping? Tommy, how's the peeping? Tommy. Tommy. Tommy. Tommy. Tommy." I'm glad to read that he was a truly kind, generous and authentic human being in addition to being a world class actor.

I regret to say I have never seen The Talented Mr. Ripley. I must correct this oversight as I have heard nothing but good things. PSH's death has made me want to seek out all the films of his I've missed, and, I suppose, even the ones I haven't, and see them all.

Thank you for reading, for commenting, and for your kind words. They mean a lot coming from you, a writer I hold in high esteem.

Ah, it's nice to be held in high esteem as a writer...you're among the few who feel this way! Thanks.
