Ladies: Have you ever given a surprise gift of flowers to a boyfriend/husband? Would you? Not for a holiday or anything, but "just because"?

Men: What is the goofiest schmoopy love name you have ever called your sweetie and NOT been punched for it? I've managed to get "my widdle wump woast" through without injury, but it was damn close.

My widdle wump roast?! *laughing* There is no way I could take that one without a massive laugh attack and some sort of leaping tackle onto the nearest soft surface.

And yes, I have given flowers just because... he told me they were his favorite kind, and I surprised him. But he dumped me not long after... so I dunno if the flowers were actually a good idea or not. ;-)

Why do you want to know?

Ciao! :-)

That's wump WOAST.

LOL!!! I LOVE making up silly names like that. It's always meant in affection, never meanness. Michelle can't stand it but I can't help myself. Besides, she needs a healthy dose of the schmoopy every once in a while. I keep her balanced like that. :)

Yes - woast - sorry about that! lol! ;-p I totally respect that - balance is a good thing! :-) Glad you're doing your best to keep the schmoopy alive and well... and in small doses, for Michelle's sake. ;-) Yeah, I don't mind the silly names... they throw me off at first... I find it sorta surprising when I hear a smoochie or a schnookums come out, but I can't deny - I like it. :-)

Since a) I'm gay; and b) I don't call my partner anything but his name, with the exception of when I call him "sweetie" in emails, I can't really answer this question very well. BUT -- this post immediately made me think of my friend Danielle, who took to calling her husband . . . Honey Bucket.

Patrick is an amazingly patient and understanding man.

I KNEW you'd be here. Ha! No offense in the omission. I intentionally worded the question so that it would target the girl->guy analogy for giving flowers since it seems so rare. Gay guys, it seems, are more willing to treat each other with special gifts like that. Am I wrong?

No offense taken -- I only included that first part of my comment as a preface to/explanation for replying with an example involving a friend of mine rather than myself.

And no, generally speaking, you're not wrong about gay guys being more willing to treat each other with special gifts like that. For the obvious reasons, there don't tend to be much in the way of examples of gender disparities in gay relationships -- and I understood that was why you asked the question in the context of male/female couplings.

I do have another friend, incidentally, who is a woman and who occasionally has been known to send a delivered lunch to her husband at work, "just because." I can't remember if it actually included flowers, but it's the same kind of thing.

But, I'm also the type of person who will surround myself with people who are a little more unconventional, including in the relationship department, even if they're straight.

I've given miscellaneous flowers to Scott before. Usually it's a single rose.
