Blog2K

So there I am having a quick look at my LJ information and it turns out that I'd made 1999 journal entries in the nearly-five-years I've had this blog. I figured I should do something to mark this 2000th post or it would just end up being a random theatre review without me noticing. I guess the obvious thing to do would be some kind of look back, but we've just had New Year's so that's the last thing anyone needs more of (besides as we established at the time, my life and this blog have become so much about me going to the theatre lately that there wouldn't be much interesting "life" stuff to mention.) So instead there's just what would normally be a "something nice for Friday" post, except it's Sunday. And it means I probably won't have anything left for next Friday, BUT OH WELL!

So in the usual spirit of having some nipples to look at, I'll start with a theme of Glee, which comes back to UK TV tomorrow. (Yes I know everyone else in this country has already downloaded the episodes that have been shown in the States but I don't do torrenting. Don't worry, I haven't acquired a sense of morality about online piracy, it's just I've had enough TV to keep up with in recent months as it is, without adding shows that haven't even been shown in this country yet.)

Going in a completely different direction, we've got something that (a) made me laugh and (b) reminded me how glad I am not to be straight:

And finally a link (it won't embed - and I suppose it probably won't play outside of the UK either but you could always try) to the surprise announcement of what'll probably be the big London theatre event this year, David Tennant and Catherine Tate reuiniting to play Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing in the West End this summer. Actually I got unaccountably offended by the fact that it was kept secret so successfully and announced like this, I think people who go to the theatre the obscene amount I do should get prior warning, not have to find out and fight for tickets with the normals. (I did get the tickets I wanted with only a small amount of fuss getting through, in the end; the ticket prices are unsurprisingly way inflated but fortunately it's at Wyndham's, which has much better sightlines than most West End theatres, so I could get balcony seats and know we'll still be able to see the stage.) Anyway, if I'm put out, it's nothing to how everyone at Shakespeare's Globe must feel, where they've got their own, as yet uncast but bound to be much less starry, Much Ado planned to run at much the same time. (I'm going to try and go to both, just space them out a bit with the Wyndham's one at the start of the summer and the Globe one at the end.)

So there we go, a blog post with no real reason behind it but I've managed to cobble something together to mark 2000 posts. Let's see if I notice when I get to 4000 (it'll probably take a lot less than another five years, if the sheer volume of crap I posted last year is anything to go by...)

catherine tate, much ado about nothing, funny stuff, theatre, friday, blog, glee, totty
