Allen the family

In case any of the three people reading this still care about Equus: It looks like the UK tour of Thea Sharrock's production, which seemed to have fallen into a black hole a few months back, will be going ahead after all as of late January. Pretty much every actor under 30 has been rumoured to succeed Dan Radcliffe as Alan, but the latest report ( Read more... )

You know I think this could be quite good, I would definitely be curious to see it again with a different cast.

They are saying Simon Callow as Dysart so that could be fab. And , no, I don't think I would be interested in seeing Lilly Allen's Brother Alfie naked, but I am wondering whether he will bring a good 'normal, none hot teenager' element to the role that could be worth a watch.

Hello, by the way!

Hello stranger - was just thinking today I haven't seen you around much.

Ooh, Simon Callow, I hadn't heard that - definitely worth trying to see it again if that's the case. Call me crazy, but I'm having a wild guess that some of the homoeroticism that Richard Griffiths didn't play might resurface if Callow does the part.

In fairness, regardless of Callow's sexuality, I've said before that Griffiths' performance was unusual in how asexual it was, both with regard to Alan and Hesther. In theory this would be played the same way, but considering how much the cast adapted their performances as the original run went on, I can't see any reason why the new cast wouldn't explore new stuff in their characters as well.

The article says Chichester from 31st of Jan, so the rest of the details probably won't be far off.

Yeah, I hope it matches up to the original, be a shame if it doesn't, and there'll be a hell of a lot of interest of course. Shame, though, that they felt they had to go for someone with a "name" (even if it is more to do with his family than him) and didn't give Jonathan Readwin the chance to get promoted from understudy to main actor.
