*No one ever thought that they would end up being the best of friends, much less the greatest of lovers. They just didn't think that it was possible. They were too different. From two totally different backgrounds. Two totally different people who weren't meant to mesh.
On one side, you had Travis McCoy. At 25, his dreams were finally coming true. He was playing tours he had only dreamed of as a kid. His band and himself were introducing an almost fusion of hip-hop and rock to such diverse crowds of kids that it was truly impossible to give a GCH fan a face. Having overcome drug addictions and having a penchant for alcohol, he was an interesting case to watch. He'd never be friends with William.
William Beckett. He was the other half of the oddball pair. Just 21, six foot tall, and maybe 140 he was often mistaken for a girl. He'd been doing this for years already. He knew this buisness inside out and he was scrambling to get to the top of it, without stepping on too many people along the way. He hung out with other Chicago boys and didn't think that kissing them was gay. He only knew the music and having a good time, but he understood a need for ambition. Sure, he liked to have a good time, but with half of your friends claiming edge, alcohol didn't always come into play.
So, how in the hell did they end up being friends? It was like they were from oppisite sides of the track. The two rivaling ends of town.
In a way, they were Romeo and Juliet, sans Juliet. They knew what they wanted. I'll give them that. They both had a definite way of getting what they wanted. I guess they wanted each other. I shouldn't really say I guess, as they did and still do want each other. Sometimes though, I still wonder how it happened. How they really met. How they really got to know each other. How they figured out that together they could be an unstoppable force.
I asked them one day, just after they'd gotten together in a more than best friends way. It wasn't a good time to ask. William was all giggles and blushes and Travis was silent and just took another sip of his beer. I don't think at that moment they understood themselves.
I've never asked again. It's been two and a half years and they're still going strong and I still don't understand it. It intrigues me. Their dynamic is special and not understandable unless you're them.
I guess that's how true love works. Like a fairy tale with knights and dragons and insurmountable obstacles. It's happily ever after in the end because that's just how it goes.
