[For Jane]

Jane knew that he would be dropping by this afternoon, so he knocked and stood back on the doorstep of New Pemberley and waited, idly turning the pink flower that he held in his hand.  He'd seen it as he'd walked the paths on the way here, and as it had caught his eye, it had made him think of Jane.  Truth be told, it was pretty, and it'd had made ( Read more... )

Jane had been expecting him and had tried to dress adequately so as to please him visually. She knew that Jack had told her that Carwood would appreciate her regardless, but it did not quell her worries. She had settled upon a deep-blue dress that fell lightly mid-thigh and created a v-neck effect and for once had set her corset aside for more modern wear. It was surprising that in her own home, she did not feel quite so anxious as she might have expected.

He turned towards her voice as the door opened, a smile and a light reply already on his lips, and then the words died on her lips as she stood there, blonde and slender and gorgeous. She always was a knockout, of course, and would give Vivien Leigh or Rita Hayworth a run for their money in his eyes, but this was a different look for her. A darker blue than her eyes, and that v led his eyes down until he caught himself and moved them up again. Then he did smile at her, and moved up to her in the doorway to slip his hand around her hip and press his lips to hers. After a moment he leant away, and held up the flower for her.

"You look nice," He said warmly, and it was an understatement. "Any occasion?"

Jane would have twirled, but she was far more occupied with leaning against his body for the kiss, fingers twining with the stem of the flower to study it with great joy. "You," she announced, of the occasion, a delighted smile upon her lips. "Carwood, this is a beautiful flower."

"Ah, it just made me think of an even more beautiful woman to give it to."

That she would wear something special for him was thrilling, and if he could barely take his eyes of her usually, he certainly couldn't now.
