Reflections on La Cage Aux Folles

So this weekend, I went to see La Cage Aux Folles twice. We saw the last night of Philip Quast and Roger Allam’s run on Saturday night, and John Barrowman and Simon Burke’s first night on Monday. Reading your essay mader me cry in rememberance of the Quast and Allam performance. Doesn't help that I'm listening to the recording at the moment.

But yes. To everything.

The one thing I will say about John's performance as a mother is that there is one moment - I believe it is after the appology - when he kissed Jean-Michelle on the head and then wiped the lipstick clean. That was the only real moment when I thought 'yes, Albin is his mother.'

Yeah, I totally agree with you, that was one of the few moments in the show that felt real
