I have started several books in the past couple weeks and just cannot get in to them, so late last night I picked up a new one and finished this afternoon. I wasn't super invested, but was easy to read between the ANTM marathon. At the moment, the irony of me watching a show about skinny models and reading about a book about an obese girl is ( Read more... )

I'm the same lately, I cannot get into any book I touch. It's annoying.
I'd like to read Fat Girl though, it sounds really interesting. It's weird because I weigh about 165lbs (I guess, that's what I was two years ago and then I lost about 20lbs, but ended up putting it all back on again, actually I probably weigh more, idk) and I'm this weight because I never (and I mean never) exercise and I like Italian food, but I don't have a really extreme relationship with food or anything (like, I was a skinny kid and teen and if I put more effort into it I could loose the weight), I'm still pretty self concious about my weight.
So when I read books like that it always makes me start to feel self concious and obsessed with food, when I didn't beforehand. Does that make ANY sense at all? I guess not, ha.

It's like I want to read and obsess over weight, but I'm scared if I read a book like this it will make me so wary of myself.

it makes complete sense. i vote that you do NOT read this book! it will totally throw you into that and if you aren't butting heads with those demons now, you shouldn't invite them in.

its so weird how crazy our culture makes us about our weight...

i mean, i can relate, totally. its just weird. like, in other cultures fatness is valued. in this culture, the opposite is true. and we supposedly have science to back that up.

i remember reading some awful book written by rosie o'donnell. she said something like she started losing weight and then she stopped because she didnt feel comfortable. and she needed the fat to protect her. so wierd..

yeah isn't that what dr phil says, that fat people are fat because they want to be? i dunno i don't actually watch him unless i'm at my parents and my mom has him on.

a friend visited mexico and a man came onto her and said 'meat is for the man, bone is for the dog.' we experienced something similar in the bahamas where this shop owner was hitting on us and complimenting our curves.

strange.

lol when i was in egypt, an OLD MAN came on to me. actually, he proposed marriage. a few minutes later he grabbed my arm-fat and said: "helwa!" which means, like, "awesome! beautiful!" etc...

man that dr. phil statement is so... loaded or something.

i think some fat ppl, like rosie odonnell like being fat.
and some people are just naturally fat.
and then theres some people who could lose weight if they really tried hard enough.

but being fat doesnt necessarily equal unhealthiness...
