Question: How do people go with so little sleep? My teeth will never let me have enough drinks (coke/coffee) to get through days like this! What's worse is now I have four tests in the next ten days to study for. I really don't have time. Might have to cut back at work even more. However, I did finally do my federal resume today. now than I ever have before. You get used to it. Or, you are so into what
you're doing that you forget that you're so damned tired. The nice part
about being under-slept and over-tired is that you don't end up lying awake
at night, rehashing the frustrations of the day in your mind - you're just
so tired that you actually sleep, well and deep. Anyway, that's my take on
living with sleep deprivation.

I just don't like napping in class, and I seem to be doing it now.

For me, though, it varies day to day what the effects are - and I think it has a lot to do with my activities. Yesterday, I had 6 hours of sleep, but at 3:30pm I was reading some boring thing at work and couldn't stop myself from nodding off! But today I only had 4 hours sleep and I've been okay all day - I'm a bit tired now and, if I laid down to watch tv, I'd probably fall asleep, but I was good all day at work; and I know if I wait a while, until, like 11 or so, then I'll be wide awake again.
The older you get, the less sleep you actually need, but I've heard that it's important to be consistent - rather than doing 6, 5, 4, 6, 6, 12, 10 sort of thing (which is what I totally do), you're better off doing 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7. Same amount of sleep, and while Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN says that you can make up sleep by sleeping in, he says it's still better to be as consistent as possible throughout the week.
