Early voting question

Nov 01, 2012 13:28

I've been getting a ton of calls about early voting, which can only be done at set locations during set times. Of course there's not any on our side of the county, so it's pretty much going to the County Courthouse if you want to do early voting. Though it doesn't apply to me since I have to vote in another county.

What was interesting to me is a ( Read more... )

I had never heard of early in-person voting until a few years ago. I think toolman and I voted early during the last presidential election, and I'd only heard of it just before that. I'm not sure if AK has it, but I never heard of it while I lived there--or in Massachusetts (where I grew up) or Maine (where my family lives and where I lived before I got married).

I like early voting. We went the first day of early voting here and got it over with. For me, it was a good thing. I was agonizing over whether to vote for Obama (I support him on some issues, but disagree with him and his policies quite strongly on many issues--some that I consider much more important than the state of the economy) or Jill Stein (I do not believe that voting for a 3rd party candidate wastes a vote). It hasn't decreased my interest in this election or the process, but making the decision early has made it easier to ignore the campaign ads.

It was also good for withpins (lyraeinne). She doesn't get home from work until 6 p.m.--sometimes later if there's more ( ... )

I've been voting via permanent absentee ballot in CA for years now. Maybe NJ allows vote by mail? No idea. It's very convenient and you can either mail in or bring the ballot in in person if you're running late. To make most people vote in person only on the day, in 2012, seems very detrimental to high turnout. You have to wonder who benefits from that.

I generally vote early here in Florida; Tuesdays tend to be busy. I could make it to the polls, but sometimes it means getting up very early and hoping there isn't a long line. I prefer to vote early, in general.

One exception: during a primary a few years back, I voted at the start of what was then a long early voting period-and new things surfaced about a candidate for whom I voted, and that candidate then withdrew from the race before the official primary day. I would have voted for someone else if the candidate had already withdrawn or I had known what came out. Now I take care not to vote too early.

I like early voting, with the one caveat. I have already voted in this election. It's not too early. : )

I did early voting on Monday and it took a little over an hour.

I LOVE early voting. And I don't think I'm an older person. My county is a vote center county which means that even on election day we can go to any station in the county to vote. I choose to go to the polling place on campus during my lunch hour and during early voting I don't burn the whole hour.
