O Canada!

Shortly after the Supreme Court announced the Affordable Healthcare Act was constitutional, rainbow Oreo hating Conservatives started Twittering about how they're going to move to Canada.

There are a few problems with this idea:
  1. Canada has public healthcare.
  2. You actually have to go through a lot of paperwork to move to Canada, just as anyone moving to ( Read more... )

I've seen some people recommend they change their destination to Somalia, a true conservative libertarian paradise where religion is the only law of the land, inasmuch as there even is law. Small government, indeed.

Well, there you go. If the Taliban would just dress differently and call itself Christian, these guys would be so happy to go live with them. Because, really, a fundie is a fundie is a fundie.

I did a double take when I saw that post. I though Canada was still being referred to as Canuckistan by the Conservative folks. Maybe that was too big a word to remember and they've forgotten all about the pesky "facts" thing.

I still lament that Canada didn't want me ten years ago, when I tried to land on its shores. I still have all the paperwork. I take it out sometimes and cry about it. :(

But, yes, it's like these folks don't know how to make the grey matter I presume they do have work for them.

I could give them a sliver of doubt and say it's the old "the grass is always greener on the other side (of the border)" thinking at work.

A lot of liberals said it when Bush was in office, so maybe that got stuck in the political mind as a sanctuary? Despite the fact that in this case, they'd be running to a country where they have policies they'd be leaving this one over.

If I didn't hate cold weather so much, I think I'D move up there....

It's only cold for a few months a year and the winters are getting milder all the time (which I'm sad about). I'm sitting here sweltering with the A/C on in S Ontario right now :-)

I'm a delicate Southern flower. 100F temps for 100+ days is normal for me. Days with snow or ice add up to less than a week each year.

There's a reason we get a lot of "snowbirds" from Canada, even in Texas.

HA! I seem to have missed the conservatives saying they'd move to Canada, because I knew right away that was a bad idea for them!

Hilarious!

I just had to laugh at it. The amount of disconnect from reality is amazing.
