Return of the Jedi, Old Skool Style

Went back to the one-screen theater that's been showing the Star Wars trilogy to see the third installment. They have a good sense of humor. They played this clip with a different bit at the end to remind people to not use their phone or text during the movie.

This time, I made it up to the balcony. Quite a feat with a bad knee (clocked it on a book ( Read more... )

the old theater sounds cool. But the trip up to the balcony sounds a bit scary to me. I would have to budget in travel time.

I love restored old movie theaters. The chairs usually not so much as they tend to be narrower & I am decidedly not narrow. (laugh) Very interesting observation about the audio differences between up top and down below.

The town the school I did my MA at was quite small, it had a little local theater that had been there forever. 2 screens, small, more intimate auditoriums & a small soda that was definitely not small for only a buck. A great place in the summer.

Giggling over the visual of y'all doing the MST3K routine. (loved that show)

I went to see Avengers earlier in the week. While i love stadium seating & plush seats, its just so big sometimes. And the last 1/4 of my bag of popcorn was shells & junk. :-(

The balcony trip was only scary because various systems are not fully functional. Ergo I have trouble with balance on top of a crappy knee, so... fun times ( ... )

Your theater sounds really cool. I love the idea of the theme nights.

In Kodiak, the one theater in town had a balcony. They charged extra for seats there, so hardly anyone was ever there--perfect for me! :-)

I think they're testing out the theme nights this month. Maybe see if it's something to carry on through the summer.

They take suggestions too, but I think it's too late for my idea to show Alien and Aliens to tie into Prometheus opening this Friday. They've already got their schedule set unless they do a special showing.

Back during Jim Crow segregation days, blacks were often relegated to the balcony in Southern theaters, to be out of sight and out of mind. The younger generations have no idea about that, and just like the back of the bus, it's the cool place to be now.
