I think it's actually gotten better since the split with CBS. They don't seem to be as concerned with appealing to the US market with many viewers baffled that not every cop carries a gun cowboying in to save the day.

I've always been a fan of Spike, but with the whumpage he's gotten recently, I'm loving it. I can't help it, I'm a hurt/comfort fan, and they're showing some nice angst all around.

Michael Shanks did a fantastic job in that episode. I loved it. And Spike was great too - I'm quite a Spike fangirl. :)

He did a bad guy without being too over-the-top about it, which he has before, but usually because the role called for it. I've been wanting to see him play a "good bad guy" and this fit the bill.

I just recently rewatched the episode where Spike's father is dying, and part of the team and some civilians are trapped in a bombed building with a bigger bomb about to bring everything down. Loved that one, because we got to really see the gears working in Spike's brain, then get a punch to the gut with the ending. He wears whumpage well, but then so does pretty much everyone on the team.

I couldn't believe Shanks didn't get killed! As desperate as he was not to return to prison, I fully expected him to turn the gun on himself when he realized he was well and truly cornered.

Although, it did leave the door open for him to escape custody and seek revenge on Team One!

I know exactly what you mean! I was like.... wait, it's Shanks. His characters live to die. ;)

I figured he'd get shot by Sam when got in behind him, if he had kept the gun on his sister. I like the potential for a revenge story though. He's already got an ax to grind with Sam's sister, now he's got all of Team One on his list, but most especially Spike and Sam.
