No spoilers in the post (but open in comments), just a quote from Lydia: "Damn."

Is it weird that I'm actually nervous to watch it, after last week? I've got 50 minutes before it even starts and I just don't know if I'm feeling anticipatory or fearful.

I felt the same way, trust me.

Okay, I wanted to dick punch Hicks for pulling that "why did you give up your guns?" BS. Like, seriously? They were freaking jumped. Pah.

And the way everyone at the station was walking around John reminded me of Lucy Liu's character - as if they really do blame him for what happened. Fucked up, man.

I think that was an example of "I would have not surrendered my gun, so that wouldn't have happened to me."

There's always a bit of a weird superstition thing with cops. It's like they want to avoid someone who has had something bad happen to them because it makes them realize it could have just as easily been them. That a very uncomfortable realization.

I think there was a level of frustration for Cooper in the whole episode, because frankly - his partner made a huge number of missteps throughout the whole situation and it's not like Cooper can say that to anyone without looking like a dick himself.

Cooper can't speak ill of the dead, so he can't speak the truth. Add onto that the level of machismo he normally projects, plus what the police force itself expects, and it's easy for someone who wasn't there to say they wouldn't have given away their gun and they can't understand why Cooper did.

Now you see why I quoted Lydia's "Damn." That pretty much summed it up for me at the end ( ... )

I always miss things, it seems, because I have no idea what happened to the guy - or which one it was. The OTT frenetic guy, or the silent, but ultimately more deadly one? That one scared the bejeebers out of me, to be honest.

Oh, man, to think how a few years ago I was wibbly for Ben and now I want him to get drop kicked. Seriously, Sammy finds him out and his response is "you broke the code first", like they're in second grade? Jesus. While I don't like the sudden-psychoness of the teacher, I predict if it comes back, she is going to do some actual harm.

I am leaning toward the latter, myself, but it could definitely be either. I think the ex's rejection of him (where when he first mentioned it, she hugged him) might have broken what little thread he was hanging on by. No idea what her motivation, but how easy is it for him to extrapolate that her sudden refusal - not for baby but for him - was just one thing too much.

Me: Cooper, your BF suggested the kid. You should have stuck with him.

The guy who got hamburgered was the frenetic guy. The detective from RHD had a picture from when he got money out of an ATM, and he was the one who'd shaved his head. So the silent guy apparently shot him in the head and tossed him out with the intent of slowing the police down and the bonus of his partner in crime never being able to testify against him about what happened.

Still haven't rewatched to see if they talk about what happened to silent guy.

Ben seems to think he's a badass cop, but his reactions are more like a kid who wants praise heaped on him for the smallest thing. He had his girlfriend's brother break into Sammy's house to retrieve a take that could have damaged Ben's career, plus apparently told him to tag it with gang sign to throw suspicion on Strokeface, because I don't see Moco being smart enough to think of that on his own. He also knew personal items would be stolen, though he didn't know someone would be hurt, because he didn't think anyone would be there. Why not just have it be a random robbery without ( ... )

I DVR'd it but when I went to watch it, all that recorded was the last minute. I only saw the last few seconds and a commercial. SHIT!

Now I have to go find a site to watch the whole thing. *sigh*

Arg! I wonder if your DVR messed up because this was an episode that ran over by 2 minutes?

Hope you've had a chance to watch it and see what built up to that shocker of an ending.

It's been a few days, and I'm still digesting. I can't believe the ending, and I really hope they'll bring back the show, because they can't leave it *there*, can they?

It's one of those shows that gets critical acclaim and a small but devoted fanbase. Sometimes a network will renew a show like that for the "prestige" and hope the ratings go up with the critics talking about it.

I'll be gutted if we don't know what happens to Cooper. He and Lydia are the lynchpins in the show for me. I liked seeing them work together a bit, though it was horrible circumstances.

If you haven't already read the interview with the executive producer who also wrote the finale, I recommend it. Gives some idea of what the potential future could be, but it's not spoilery because even if it's renewed, some of the actors are in pilots that if picked up, means they're out of Southland and the show will have to adapt.
