J has just given me a potted update of the recent RPG weekend.  Imagine my amusement when he informed me that his character had been John Maguire aka Harry "Pickaxe" Molson, a Gangster Enforcer and right-hand man of notorious and powerful gangster, Jack "The Hat" McVitie.  Hmm, hands up anybody who can imagine J in this role in real life ( Read more... )

No, that character was just his cover. His real character was a dastardly roleplayer from a rival group.

Much more likely, I think you'll agree.

And my character was a 19th C paparazzo, undercover as a staff photographer! Some nice photos of most people concerned, though those shady characters who didn't want to be found didn't get vanity photos! :D

Unfortunately the tech of the time (Daguerreotype) doesn't really lend itself to candids - the exposure times were very long by todays standards, and each photo could only be exposed onto a single print (on copper or silver plate). Apparently, people had to be strapped into chairs to ensure that they didn't move!

Still, I'll be posting a photoshopped representation on flickr real soon now :D

Kenton hardly ever tells me. I think he knows I'll laugh and that pisses him off :-)

The look of pride as he told me how well the Ars Magica session he'd run had gone was really sweet though :-)
