Just finished Vanity and Vexation (originally published as Lions and Liquorice): Pride and Prejudice in drag and modern dress, and I found it quite funny. Prior to that was Teverton Hall, which was so fluffy and inconsequential it felt like it shouldh't have taken more than an hour to read. Possibly worthwhile if you want to read more Mr. Collins, ( Read more... )

i went to school there! while it was a huge waste of money for me, i always loved working on the exhibits. i really miss going there. fortuny is the pleats guy right? we skimmed over him in a history of fashion (my all time favorite and most interesting class by far) if you major in history of fashion can you get a job anywhere? it might be worth it for me to go and get my BA (only have an AA) if i could get a job after all that (i dont like school much) but my units only transfer to peperdine so i guess that will only work out if we move back to LA anyhow.

Fotuny is the pleats guy. I'm not sure what you can get with a history of fashion major--I majored in English. Probably better to start at the other end, figure out what job you want, and then ask what you need to get there. (Not that I did it that way. I majored in English because it was my best subject. Didn't know what I was going to do for work till I got my first job.)

Do you know if they have a catalogue for that exhibit? I'm not going to be able to get down to see it, and Aesthetic Dress is a serious subject of mine. Are there at least postcards, perhaps? If there are, I suppose I could write to the institute and request some.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner--it's a little crazy right now--unfortunately, there wasn't a catalogue or postcards. There's a brochure for the exhibit, with the lovely tea gown that's on the website, but that's all. (To my great regret--I did quick sketches of the Liberty dresses, but they're very crude.) I was very bummed that they wouldn't let me take pictures.
