Here's a question: How fierce should I get with my contractor? This job is taking a long time. It isn't because of slow work per se, but more poor planning in the initial stages, I think. I do get the feeling that he doesn't respect me enough, despite the rather large size of this reno, the top dollar fittings I am using, and my general competence

Be fierce but do not threaten. Let him clearly know what you are unhappy with and what needs to change to make you happy. Write out your issues before hand to make sure you have them clear in your own mind - only give him the list if you think it is necessary.

I have had a hard time over the years finding a good contractor here in Windsor. That statement could be made in probably every town in the world. A common complaint.
