You'll never know if you don't ever try again

Another week checked off for the year. We're two weeks in already! Part of me can't believe it's already been 12 days, and the other party feels like New Years was forever ago. As the days go by, the weight of last year is slowly being lifted. The end of December was particularly difficult, but every day is one step closer to recovering and moving ( Read more... )

I hope everything works out!! That's great that you've been able to save some money. I'm sorry your father did that with your computer and may have done something with your stuff - that sounds like such a violation. My dad used to always throw stuff away just because I hadn't used it in a while and it drove me insane.

I love(d) Habitica! I haven't used it in forever because I always forget to check the app. T_T But I used to be really good at using it!

The A7X/Breaking Benjamin tour is coming through near me too!! I was thinking about going but I'm honestly so broke, haha. Also I'm much more of a fan of Breaking Benjamin than A7X (I like them but I just never got super into them), so I'm not super motivated when the band I like the most isn't the headliner. But that sounds awesome, have fun!!

Do you have any kind of routine for writing? I've been trying to write more, but I tend to just do it sporadically when I'm feeling inspired. Any advice/resources you could recommend?

Growing up, my brothers (both older than me) would do the same thing. It made me grow into a very aranoid person, to where when I was living in a dorm at school I had anxiety attacks almost daily when I knew my roommate was in my room and I wasn't there. When I moved to the apartments at school I kept all of my stuff in a locked trunk under my bed... I got a lock for my closet since moving back, and keep most of my stuff locked in my trunks. It's pretty bad. I do wonder if I would still be this paranoid if they had actually respected my stuff when I was growing up ( ... )

I had to put a key lock on my bedroom door when I went to college because the first time I came home for a weekend my room was a mess, clothes and books were missing and carelessly strewn about, etc. I appreciate knowing someone who has experienced something similar, because my friends have always thought it was absurd.

I have a giant binder too, but I definitely should get something smaller I can carry around. I'll definitely check out those books when I have a chance. I've heard of NaNoWriMo but I've never done it. I don't know how people do it while still trying to be normal people and do normal things like go to work every day.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you on time about the last Discord discussion, but I'll try and join in in the future if I can! I usually work on Saturdays, but I'm definitely interested. :)

I can't lie, some days it's tough to juggle NaNo with life, but if you try to write a little extra whenever you have spare time, you can go full days without writing and still stay on target. Just takes some planning before November hits. Also helps if you warn family and friends you're going to be doing something crazy for the whole month and might not be able to socialize as often, haha. For this past November, I wrote for maybe an hour and a half every weekday, and tried to spend a couple hours on Saturdays writing to get ahead. Some people who have busier lifestyles choose to go for different goals, like writing an hour a day, or 1k words a day, or even editing old work instead of writing. The challenge is mostly just meant to get you creating and inspired for the month. They do 2 Camp NaNos every year, too, in April and July. You set your own writing goals for those. You should consider trying one out to get a feel for it ( ... )

The dental issues sound so scary! I used avoid the dentist, but for the last 10 years or so, I've gone routinely. I definitely think when you go routinely, it's better. But I also have been very good about flossing, so there's that too.

I also think living solo is DEFINITELY worth it if you can afford it. I very much enjoyed my time in a little apartment where everything is up to you, good and bad (no one to blame for anything)!

That HabitRPG/Habitica thing sounds interesting! I also think of some of my goals in gaming terms (I think of the entries I've fixed on LJ and DW so far as me having a "score" of 546 out of 1227, for instance - and long entries that take a while to fix are kind of like boss battles), but I've never heard of there being a whole site like that! :)

It's super fun! Especially if you find a supportive and friendly party to quest with. The group I am a part of is pretty social, but we are all very different so it is cool to hear about what other people are working toward and prioritize. I find it really helpful because I love collecting things (for instance, I have collected every book in Skyrim on 3 different platforms...), and you can collect pets, mounts, and equipment. I find it really helpful to visually see my progress like that.

That's a clever way to keep yourself motivated, "scoring" your progress! Might be worth checking out to see if it's up your alley :)
