The math problem can be solved very simply as follows. Suppose B is your birth year. Assuming you were born in the 1900s, the last two digits are B-1900.
Add to this your age in 2011, which is 2011-B. The sum is:
B - 1900 + 2011 - B
The B's cancel, and 2011 - 1900 is 111.
If you were born in 2000 or later, the result can be shown always to be 11 by a similar calculation. As stated, the problem assumes that the target (victim?) of the puzzle was always born in the 1900s, which was probably a pretty safe assumption when the problem was formulated. However, this will clearly be less and less true as time goes on.
