MP: Just a Journal Entry

The big rat cage is clean and my hands are pruny. I'm tired now, with my back aching. I smell of soap and paper bedding and faintly of rat piss. I love my rats, don't misunderstand, but cleaning that cage is such a job. Although honestly, it took about an hour and a quarter, which seems like not such a big deal. Where is my stamina? But then I ( Read more... )

I get headaches when I'm tired and overstressed, too--though not nearly as bad as yours, it sounds like--so I'm guessing at least a part of the cure is pretty simple. Get more sleep! It might even be necessary to adjust your body-clock--start going to bed a little earlier and getting up a little earlier each day. Sleep really, really makes a difference, both to headaches and to overall health in general; exhaustion will weaken your immune system even more.

It may be helpful to make some diet adjustments as well--more whole grains and vegetables, less processed foods and refined sugars. My cousin had completely debilitating migraines until she cut out refined sugars from her diet. I still think you should go to a doctor, but it's really worth looking at what you can change in your lifestyle to improve your overall health.

Getting enough sleep is certainly something I could try to be better at, as is eating more whole grains (although alas I just had to throw out an entire loaf of whole gran french because mold had invaded ><) and veggies. I wish it were as easy to do as it is to say.

All of the same that Ki said above, plus the mention that olfactory hallucinations do frequently go hand in hand with brain issues like migraines and seizures. It's not necessarily an omg you have brain cancer/epilepsy sort of thing, but definitely another symptom that will help your doctor diagnose exactly what's going on.

Ah yeah, the ever present need to improve my diet >< Why does something that sounds so simple seem so very hard?

Yeah doc visit is probably in the cards. I should probably get them to look at my benign bone tumor thing on my forehead again, too >.>

*hugs* Smart girl, noticing the stale smoke smell.

You know, if we were really organized, and if putting a kid through university doesn't immediate bankrupt me, maybe we could MEET in Las Vegas sometime and see Cirque de Soleil.

If I went to the doctor and said, "I've been getting headaches and light bothers my eyes" that was too generic to bother with...

Any doctor that says headache and light sensitivity aren't worth a consultation isn't doing a good job - there's plenty of investigative pathways there. The aura phase of migraines most commonly involve flashing lights, but you can have an olfactory aura too, and that sounds exactly like what you're describing to me. I have a customer whose migraine aura involves the smell of chocolate. I think you should definitely get it checked out, not because there's anything serious going on, but because there are some good treatments out there once you have a diagnosis.

Yeah, it's not my doc who was telling me I was being silly, it was me deciding not to bother with it. Me being all - I have enough reasons to visit the doctor, I don't need another.

Thanks for sharing that about migraines and olfactory aura!

I KNOW! It was a shock to me, too. Just goes to show what lardons of pork belly and a little cognac butter sauce can do for even the most unappealing of vegetables. Well, second most unappealing. Yellow squash remains the nastiest, and I don't think bacon can save it. And of course I'm exempting bell peppers, since they are not in fact a vegetable, but a poison. :D
