Hells to the fuck yeah!

The Supreme Court just struck down DOMA AAAAANNND Prop 8. Though, from what I've read, the Prop 8 thing reset the bill back to the State Supreme Court ruling that it was unconstitutional, so it could be brought back up again, but the Governor and Attorney General would have to be behind it. I'm trying to understand everything myself. It wasn't the State Supreme Court, but the Northern District of California federal court. I haven't read the rulings yet.

The Governor/AG decided not to defend the original case because they felt Prop 8 was unconstitutional. People in favor of Prop 8 were allowed to step in as defendants. The SCOTUS said that those groups in favor of Prop 8 trying to defend the law did not have standing (ie: essentially a legal ability to defend the law.)

It likely is that there will be some procedural things, but essentially the original decision of the district (ie: first court where this was filed originally) is what will stand.

Ah, I assumed the lower court ruling was the state court.

Either way, it's a huge win.

LA county isn't issuing any new wedding licenses for same-sex couples until that particular lower court makes its ruling.
