Everything you describe about how you were raised around food is what I experienced, too. It makes me NUTS when I hear parents talk about, "Oh, my kid can't eat anything but chicken fingers," or whatever. *shudder* My mom actually has a HORRIBLE relationship with food, but somehow managed to raise two kids with varied palates and relatively normal food relationships. (My food issues came much later in college, and were very much related to my mom's way of dealing with BODY issues. But food itself? Always a pleasure.) And I started cooking when I was 4 or 5.

Kind of the only non-ideal thing for me food-wise as a kid was that I wasn't breastfed, since I was adopted. So I've always figured that I'm a good example of the fact that not breastfeeding can turn out fine if the choice isn't there. But given the choice, it sure does seem the best way to go.

I can't wait until the Blueberry is walking through the greenmarket saying, "Oh, look mama, can we get some of THOSE?" :)

Like I said, I wasn't breastfed either and obviously my IQ was fine! LOL! And I was a pretty healthy kid overall.

But hey - it's cheaper to breastfeed :) And you know how DIY I can be around food stuff! :)

I can't wait to take the Blueberry to the Greenmarket. I want to make onesies that say 100% Locally Grown on them!

Hiya! It's funny what makes you decide to finally read your friend's blog! So do you know about the Upper Breast Side (http://www.upperbreastside.com)? I went there for Aara a few times right after Val was born, they have these cooling gel packs for the nipples that are supposed to be just dreamy, among all sorts of other fun stuff. I was a combination baby, nursed (for the most part) until 11 months when, according to my mother, I simply refused as was thus weaned. But I also know that after a few months my dad would feed me formula from a bottle at night, and I was also formula-fed for the first week or so and went right back to the boob no problems (according to family legend). I have bad digestion, but I know that to be genetics. My point is breast-feeding seems like a good thing, but don't feel too bad if you can't be perfect about it. I feel like there is so much pressure on parents these days, particularly moms, to be so perfect and perfectly cautious about ( ... )

Hey M!

I haven't heard of the Upper Breast Side. I will check them out. I have a breastfeeding class on Friday actually!

Oh, most definitely. I am planning to pump but if need be, and I can't make enough milk, then we will supplement. But seriously - formula is EXPENSIVE. Oy vey.

I have had a few glasses of wine while pregnant myself. I am planning on being more like a 70's Mom, than a 2000's Mom, honestly.

I was totally formula fed. I guess Yale & Harvard are out of my reach now! LOL
