I'm definitely considering ditching my print New Yorker subscription and moving to a Kindle subscription. I have the Complete New Yorker DVD collection and get the yearly update DVDs when they come out, at which point I recycle the previous year's worth of New Yorkers. Doing it the Kindle way would mean skipping the big pile of recycling. I like that. :)
So I take the it the software makes it easy to read stuff? Can you stretch/zoom the text like you can in other iPhone apps to read it as big as you want?
Yes! And the LeGuin book (I can't speak for others) was formatted to look good right away on the iPhone at a good font size. I havne't had to change the font size at all - it's not super teeny, and each "page" is one full iPhone screen at about 12 point type. VERY easy to read. It stays on the page when I switch out of the Kindle software and use other functions, which is great. So far, I'm very pleased with it. I only have the one book so can't speak to swtiching between books or anything like that.
The magazine subscriptions are really inexpensive. I wish that Landscape Architecture Magazine was available for Kindle!!!
The software was free ... they have short stories for like 99cents that you can try it out, and there are free Kindle books too, though they tend to be weird things like train schedules from 1840 that are in the public domain :)
I really like the kindle software ,but to help defray costs I have also installed e-reader (http://www.ereader.com/ereader/help/iphoneFAQ.htm). It can be a little convoluted to convert the files and load them on the iPhone, but with project gutenberg the price is right.
yayy! You know, I was thinking this morning that I should check and see if my company has a relationship with Kindle since we publish our own textbooks... and we have pdfs of them as well.
