Birthday Suggestions

Dec 20, 2007 17:03

Tell me restaurants I should go to for my 35th Birthday! No Indian, and no "red sauce" Italian*, please.

Tell me why, and if you can, provide a link!

Feel free to ask folk on my behalf! And remember - I'm in NYC :)

*I can't eat dairy, eggs, potatoes, peppers (like bell peppers), tomatoes or eggplant.

I'm betting a safe option for you would be an amazing seafood meal. In which case you should go do the tasting menu (with wine pairings, of course) at Esca. This restaurant is the biggest temptation for me to stray from the vegetarian path. I've only eaten there once, and I WILL eat there again, sometime when I'm in the mood to have my "once in a blue moon" seafood experience. (My trip to Barbados has me covered pretty well on that for a while.) I have never had better seafood in my life than I had at Esca. So fresh and so amazing. I've been wanting to try out that tasting menu for a long time.

If there are things on the tasting menu that you can't eat, I'm sure there are plenty of other options on the menu. The wine list there is also quite fantastic.

If you choose this option, make reservations NOW, as they can be hard to get.

ETA: By the by, if you choose this option, and you decide you want "dinner out with friends" instead of "romantic dinner with S" for your birthday, I would totally go with you for this. Or probably ( ... )

I haven't decided yet. I have to talk it over with S. I have issues with the romantic dinner thing if I have to plan it all which it is my experience :/ As for friends, that would be good. I have to make some coordinations though...

I am of the opinion that what you should do for your birthday is what you want to do. :) So whatever you decide, I hope you have a grand time. :)

I would love to be in on a dinner with friends, if that's how you choose to celebrate. And if it's not, then I shall have to take you out. ;)

I wasn't a huuuuge fan of Esca when I went there for a biz lunch in Sept, but the tasting menu might be another deal.

I just recently went to Morimoto and we did the tasting menu there, which was quite lovely and I think rather Nicole friendly in terms of what they served. Plus they told us they would be more than willing to accommodate any restrictions/requests, though we did not have any.

I shall try to brainstorm some other options for you!
