Happy Holidays! Cheap diners, food

Happy Holidays to whoever is still around here!

Over the next two weeks, I might hang out with an old friend or two, but it may be somewhat spontaneous.  Will want to shoot the breeze over some food, but the main problem is a cheap joint to eat and relax.

Would appreciate suggestions for general cheap diners, coffee shops, various ethnic food

My question is, how cheap is cheap for you? It's a relative term, and what's cheap for me might be expensive for you. (Or vice versa.)

Are you meeting for lunch? Dinner? Do you need to be waited on or will a food court do? (A food court is a better bet for hanging out for 1-2 hours, because people are less likely to bother you.)

And lastly, what borough? If you took the Staten Island ferry, you could pack a picnic-or they have food on the boat-and you could go back and forth for hours. How long do you want to make this visit? It's your call.
