I was going to suggest the three buck chuck as well. Its perfectly mediocre, has alcohol in it (face it, that's all most people care about), and its cheaper than Gato Negro which is another great pick if you can't get to TJ's.

Article on the Trader Joes Wine.

Some places give you a discount on buying a case but I don't know if Trader Joes does.

Ha, I had this same sort of party (though much bigger):
It was horrible but hardly as evil as the Bull's Blood, aka Hungary's Egri Bikaver ($3.99). Dark red, with a peppery, wet-skunk finish, the Bull's Blood smells like the crabapple tree in grandma's backyard, one panelist offered. Others were less charitable. Real bull's blood is probably nicer. This is like bull's blood boiled with piss and vinegar.

We were actually much less generous on the comment cards for that one.

I like the Purple Moon Shiraz at TJ's (the merlot is gross, though)

three buck chuck is Charles Shaw wine, and it's $4/bottle in NY. the shiraz is actually drinkable. there are tons of other options at the Trader Joe's wine shop....

This. I didn't know it went up to $4 though. Sad!

Astor Wines seems to have some really good deals! Especially if you buy in bulk :)

Yellowtail Shiraz is always a crowd-pleaser and comes in larger bottles for that bulk pricing. No one will complain.
