Proofreader

I was thinking of taking one of those proofreading courses to become certified. Does anyone know if it is worth it? If they are could someone recommend a place?

Thanks in advance.

Mediabistro.com!! I can't speak to the proofreading classes, but they offer them, and are awesome.

I actually DID take a mediabistro.com editing/proofreading e-class, and it was very helpful. I didn't do it for certification purposes, though, just to enhance my journalism degree. Worthwhile, but pricey ($400-ish).

Oh I have a degree in journalism also. I haven't been able to find a job in that field though.

Did you find it helped when looking for a gig?

I honestly can't say if it helped or not, because I ended up getting my current job through a friend. But the more education, the better, I say! Sorry I couldn't help more.

I dunno bout being "certified" but I did proofreading a few years ago. Once you've got it down (you can do it in a weekend) you can go to the agencies and they'll place you pretty quickly. I used to work for Postemps, I dunno if they're still around.

Hell, I could use a little extra money - maybe I should get back into it. I'll look into this "certified" proofreading of which you speak.

Well some of the jobs I have seen ask for either proof reading experience or some kind of certificate.

There are temp agencies that place proofreaders? and what do you mean by get it down? Like learn the marks and whatnot?

I could definitely use the extra money which is why I was asking.

P.S. That is a dope Jesse Custard icon.
