Wanna hear a funny story? Draco is a bitch to write. Heh.

Interesting pairing... grandma_kate September 15 2007, 15:13:39 UTC
Draco does come with a lot of baggage. I do think you have made him not a total disaster with this
" With a strange grimace that might have been a smile, he walked back to the apartment building, rode the elevator without a single interruption, and sat down on his bed with a roll of parchment.

Dear Mother and Father,

I hope you both are well. I don’t have much news, but I met a girl today…"

Oh, you've really put a lot of thought into Draco! I love the backstory you've provided for him - the American relatives, the travels, and thoughts of his mother. For some reason, drawing on the expensive stationery really struck me as the perfect Narcissa-as-mom moment.

I also like how Kate is both irritated and intrigued with "the vicar" LOL. She is lively and happy compared to Draco and I liked the contrast - she seems very American and he seems very British. A lovely combination. The ending was perfect! No great love scene - just the hope of something else to come. That really made this matchmaker scenario realistic. Good job!

Thanks for reading! I'm developing a rather unhealthy fascination with Narcissa, and by extent Draco, which was more than fueled by DH. I don't think you've read Family History yet, my Blackgirlsfic, but if you want to check it out... *shameless lockhart*

in any case, yes, kate was fun to write. I do plan on returning to them a bit later, maybe, so watch this space. And once again thanks for reading! :)

Great Job! anonymous September 17 2007, 22:02:36 UTC
I really enjoyed your story. I think you did an excellent job of making post-war Draco believable and real. And I definitely want to see more of Kate. Thanks for writing!

Draco is intriguing here. I liked this:

He felt unbelievably separate from the world around them, from the people who laughed and cried, slapped their palms on the table to make a point, opened their arms in an embrace. He just stood there, silent and still as a marble statue.

I can imagine Draco going numb in this way, from what we saw of his behaviour and responses under pressure in HBP in DH. Have to admit I'm more interested in the Malfoys than Kate thus far *ducks flying rocks* but Draco with a Muggle-born is an interesting scenario.

Magical Coney Island is a great invention:
the constant, constant noise of the Muggle beach pounding against the magical barriers

I really liked the ending too, particularly this bit: he turned on the spot and walked, past the docks, to the tiny bit of beach Magical Coney Island called it’s own. He stepped into the sand, still warm from the day, felt the strong, salty breeze on his face; he felt it.Do you know how soon your Cissy chapter will up on SQ? *pokes back ( ... )

I'm having a thing for the Malfoys at the moment. It's too fun. I know how you feel about Kate- Main Character OCs are usually only fun for the people who write them, but I felt like I *needed* to invent someone for Draco. No-one in canon seems suitable for him. But I'm glad you liked Magical Coney island, anyway.

Beta's on vacation, so no idea- I submitted a one-shot first anyway, so keep your eyes open as it is. And, I feel like I haven't said this, I strongly, strong urge you to do NaNoWriMo this year. Depending on uni, i actually might, too.

Is Anya still at your place? Keep an eye on the mailbox, both of you! :)
