Official 2024 Fest Post

Oct 01, 2024 00:01

Alright game play remains the same with the exception of the timeline this year. For anyone new or anyone wanting a refresher, here is your post. Below you'll find first the time line, then the rules, and finally the community prompts.

Timeline

Sign ups open: Friday November 1st
Sign ups close: Saturday November 30th
Posting opens: Sunday December 1st
Posting soft close: Wednesday December 25th
Posting hard close: Tuesday December 31st
the difference in closing dates is for 2 reasons: 1) managing the sign up challenge levels and 2) a set week for anyone who is posting as an overachiever or is catching up after a few days of posting.

Header Info

When posting, make sure to use the following header:

Title
Author/Artist
Length/Size of work
Summary
Rating
Warnings
Other content notes
Fandom (optional)
Pairing (optional
Beta (optional)
Disclaimer (mandatory only if not original work)

Please make sure to post correctly. Your subject line should be the title and the author/artist. At minimum, the tags you use should have the year and what type of work it is. We encourage everyone with fanworks to use the fandom tags. If you do not see a tag that you need, please tag it 'mod attention needed'.

As a note, tagging here does not use what is termed 'meta tags'. To keep things simple and clean, fandoms are sorted under 'umbrellas'. For example, Sherlock Holmes and all versions are under 'Sherlock Holmes and related'.

Rules

-We are a December challenge. We'd prefer if your works for this challenge focus on the end of the year -- maybe it's just a winter theme, or a holiday theme, but it should focus on December or a December holiday and/or the conclusion of a year into a hopeful New Year.

-It is prompt based. We can give you a prompt table or you can make your own table or use your own prompts or use prompts from another community. You'll let us know in your sign up! (If you elect to use your own prompts, please have a list ready to point back to when posting. Thanks!)

-We welcome all types of works. Original or fanwork, art or written or vid; everything is welcome! You can also do a combination, such as doing some art and some poetry. It's up to you!

-Sign ups are mandatory. In addition to making sure you have the tags you need, this is so we can keep track of who is posting and whether we'll be waiting for you when the round up posts happens. Also so your mod can give you posting access.

-Yes, you can combine this with other challenges! When you post, all we ask is for a link to where the piece is posted so everyone can see/read it. This does mean if your other challenge is anonymous, you cannot use it with this fest. Otherwise, if the other challenge allows, you can use it for this challenge! If you do post your work directly to the community, please use a cut.

-We have an AO3 collection! https://archiveofourown.org/collections/2024_nyc_works

-There is no minimum/maximum. Any length/size is welcome.

-You do not have to write individual stories; you can have a continuous story posted in 25 parts. If you do this, however, we ask that you make sure each post has a link to the previous part, if applicable, and to the next part, if applicable.

-All works should be new for the month of December - please do not reuse stories! If your work is part of a series, we only ask that the work stand on its own, no need for someone to go looking for the other parts to know what's going on.

-There are different levels for this fest: Easy (where you aim to post a third of the days; the total number of works would be 8), Moderate (where you aim to post half of the days; the total number of works would be 12), Hard (where you aim to post all 25 days), and Overachiever (where you aim to post all 31 days). Yes, you can change your level; if it turns out you can only manage 8 where you thought you could do 25 or you end up creating 25 rather than 8, that's fine! No need to let us know. This is mostly for organizing for all -- so I know who to wait for during the round up and so you know what your personal goal is.

-This community does not carry a warning for adult content HOWEVER the owner is not responsible for anyone under the age of 18 viewing content they should not be. Further, do not flame or leave rude/impolite/unnecessary comments -- if you do not like the content listed in the header, DO NOT READ. The community runs on the social contract of tolerance and that everyone moderates their own viewing and contents, no one else's. Violators of this rule will be banned. No second chances. (Banning happens at the owner's discretion and will not be disputed.)
