HISTORY: Born and raised in the inner city by his father in a single parent family, Gene has little to no memories of his mother as she was unable to cope with the responsibilities of being a mother and ran away from the family home when he was only a few months old. His father was a trader who piloted an ancient cargo ship that was no longer capable of space flight. Gene had a relatively happy, normal childhood, he attended school (albeit rather reluctantly) and was rather popular amongst his peers for his recklessness and cocky attitude though the same personality traits often got him into trouble.
When he was fifteen years old he joined his father on a three-day trip to drop off some rather valuable cargo with a customer, it was his first and last trip on the run down, ex-space ship as they were attacked on the second day by a band of mercenaries who called themselves ‘Pirates’ who had been hired to obtain the cargo. Badly injured, Gene was forced to abandon the ship by his father before the ship exploded in a ball of flame. Ever since he has despised ‘Pirates’.
Without an extended family, Gene decides to take care of himself rather than allowing himself to be taken into the local orphanage and sets up his own business doing odd jobs for people in the city. It was on one of these ‘odd jobs’ walking a neighbour’s dog when he quite literally stumbled across the old, battle-damaged Grappler Ship half-buried in the ground in the outskirts of the city.
Originally believing that the thing could be worth something as an antique he arranged to have it brought back but found himself unable to part with it after finding out that not only was it capable of flight after some major repairs, it was also completely worthless. It is one of the few projects that he has actually stuck with for a long period of time.
PERSONALITY: Gene is a reckless ladies man and a bit of a pervert, it is often said that he’d do anything for a girl with a pretty face and skimpy skirt, though he fiercely denies this fact, he is the type of guy who would rather achieve his goals with minimum effort and prefers not to let himself get held down by thoughts of work and responsibilities but this careless nature brings a continuous source of frustration to anyone who spends long periods of time around him. At a glance, he can appear to be a rather brash individual with a severe attitude problem, (especially when people are harassing him for his recklessness and irresponsibility), but he does have a caring side that he shows around the people he considers friends.
Although he is more likely to shirk his responsibilities, Gene is actually a rather ambitious individual with two main goals in his life; to ‘make it big’ and someday pilot a space craft of his own into space. This personality trait presents itself strongest whenever he is working on the old Grappler Ship (dubbed the Outlaw Star), although his good intentions often degrade into rather crude arguments with the ship’s egotistic internal computer. Unfortunately, he has a near-crippling phobia of space and nothing has been permitted to leave the dome ever since it was set up so his efforts are rather in vain.
POWERS/ABILITIES/COMBAT SKILLS: Gene is well-armed with a variety of weapons including handguns, a shotgun, several knives and a light shield. He is also in possession of a very rare, old gun known as a Castor gun, which fires special shells called Castor shells; these are projectile shells that contain ancient magic cast by a wizard and contained in the shell. These shells are numbered by power level with the three most powerful being #4, #9 and #13. The magic in each shell varies, some are capable of producing a miniature black hole to absorb the target whilst others use electrical charges or powerful explosions to incapacitate the target. Unfortunately Castor shells are rare, expensive and many of the shells still in circulation are so old they are considered to be ‘duds’ as the magic sealed within them is long gone.
IN CANON: He loves women and fighting more than anything! But because of this he always invites this sort of unnecessary trouble. He is a young man living on the planet Sentinal 3 in a repair shop, his secondary job is working as a bodyguard for other people. If you take one look at him he looks like any ordinary jackass but when he gets into trouble, he is cool and sneaky. His dream is to go into space but he has his reasons for staying.
