CHARACTER NAME: Chigusa “Atoli” Kusaka

HISTORY: Atoli’s early years were entirely average and. for the most part, happy. Her parents had the opinion that girls should be quiet and not stand out, and through elementary school this caused no problems for her. It wasn’t until she enter junior high that she began to have problems with her peer group. When she tried to change to fit in better with the other girls, her parents began to actively forbid her from doing things to accomplish this.
The end result was her being pulled in two different directions, simultaneously fearing abandonment by both sides. Eventually, she saved these two groups the trouble of deserting her and cut herself off from both of them, becoming reclusive and seeming only to care about her pet birds. In a particularly bad bout of depression, she began to frequent suicide websites. This is where she first met Sakaki. He quickly befriended her, and soon they met in person.
Sakaki was a high-ranking member of the organization Moon Tree, and urged Atoli to become involved with it as well. Taking her work there as a new purpose in life, her state of mind began to improve. She and Sakaki (whom she regarded as her savior) became incredibly close very quickly. This fact is probably what led her to become involved with the faction’s “secret project” to the point of becoming its centerpiece.
Assured that the results would allow her to assist in bringing in a new age of peace, Atoli volunteered to undergo massive experimentation. The result was that she was granted the power to turn into a massive creature know as “Innis,” in which form she can perform various supernatural feats. In order to strengthen and stabilize her these abilities, she was given a drug known as AIDA. Unfortunately, it seems that either the drug or the transformations have an adverse effect on her mental health, as she soon began to fall back into a state of depression.
PERSONALITY: Atoli is, quite simply, a psychological wreck. Due to the personality she projects onto the surface, however, this is hard to immediately realize. Outwardly, she appears to be a cheerful but naïve young woman, fiercely dedicated to Moon Tree and their pacifistic stance. Sometimes blind to obvious facts if they contradict her worldview, Atoli is extremely zealous about converting people to the faction’s stance on politics. Above all else, she values manners and kindness while hating competition.
Underneath this, however, Atoli is a mess of self-worth issues. She’s constantly looking for praise, attention, or even just acknowledgement of who she is, and is entirely loyal to anyone who will give it to her. It doesn’t matter if the attention she is receiving comes in the form of abuse, so long as the abuser is perceiving her for who she is. Even more so than her naivety, this makes her easy to manipulate. On the worst of days, she harbors suicidal impulses-something she has only told Sakaki.
POWERS/ABILITIES/COMBAT SKILLS: Oh God help me
Mirage- Innis primary skill (and purpose). Has the ability to project an incredibly realistic illusion over a small area-realistic to the point where it is distinguishable from reality in only that it reverts to normal when Innis transforms back into Atoli. Though its scope is currently very small, it is hoped that Atoli will be able to expand it with practice.
Other Illusions- Innis can create smaller, less convincing illusions, such as shadow doubles or temporary invisibility. Used as a defense mechanism.
Energy Blades- When distracting a potential enemy isn’t enough, Innis can stab things with retractable energy blades. Also, she can fly around and run things over, which I’m just lumping in here because I have no idea what to list for that heading.
Data Drain- As an absolute last resort, Innis can use “Data Drain.” However, this is generally not advised, as the results are incredibly unstable and vary greatly depending on a multitude of factors. Beyond that, this skill is difficult to use in the first place. On inanimate objects, it’s purpose is simple-a small scale, permanent Mirage. On living things, however, it can any result from worsening physical wounds, to temporarily rendering supernatural skills unusable, to leaving the person in a likely irreversible coma.
EXTRA: Moon Tree - An organization that promotes peaceful protests and the idea of a non-violent political revolution. Above all else, they desire peace. Sakaki is the “captain” of the groups Second Division, and the unofficial head of the more militant portion of the members.
NPCs- Sakaki, Atoli’s friend and mentor. He is currently horribly manipulating her with encouragement and praise to go through with improving the scope of her Mirage, hoping to eventually be able to affect all of New Sanctum with it. Atoli, for her part, doesn’t seem bothered that his plans will require to remain as Innis permanently.
Other- Atoli owns three birds, and considers herself to be a good cook.
IN CANON: Atoli is a female Harvest Cleric and a member of the guild called Moon Tree. She is also an Epitaph User, and is the host for the Second Phase Innis, the Mirage of Deceit.
