well this is my first post to community and i just wanted to share the translation of Tegomass article from Seventeen 4/1/07 (vol 9) that the Tegomass forum translators did. hope you guys like it... comments will be appreciated (;
TegoMass, a unit that came from the group NewS, is the supporter of the spring high school volleyball competition.
Masuda: This time it’s not going to be with NewS, but just Tegoshi and I. I’m worried but I’m also looking forward to it. Rooting on with all our might, we will sing our new image single, “Marui Chikara,” and we want the players and audience to send up a cheer.
Tegoshi: Until now, I’ve watched the spring volleyball matches any number of times, but never one a fraction this cool. The players fiercely spike the ball and their attitude toward winning is hella cool. Kids facing this sort of target with great effort is fascinating.
Masuda: Of course! Before, while collecting data, there was a team that didn’t put on makeup or do their hair. The club’s rules say, “Be smartly dressed,” and they were only able to have manicures on their toenails. Those nonchalant girls were amazing and left a deep impression on me.
TegoMass have been sportsmen since they were very young.
Masuda: My parents told me I like to exercise, and I’ve done swimming since I was three, played soccer for six years in elementary school, and played basketball in my middle school era. My footrace speed and distance from when I was an elementary school student was 50m in seven seconds. So I liked gym class about as much as I liked lunch. The only reason I went to school was for those two. (laughs)
Tegoshi: I also, from elementary school to middle school, really wanted to play soccer every day. My best memory is from my third year of middle school. There was a shootout that would win the match that allowed us to enter a large city tournament. Because of that, we lost the game. Though blaming the person was natural, their companions encouraged them instead. I feel that I want to learn that incredible teamwork. Because from right after I entered NEWS Massu and the other members repeatedly helped me, so that I am able to help others in the future, I think that I want to become a big person.
Masuda: Tegoshi is someone I spend a lot of time with, probably even more than my family, so of course I’d support him.
As the years pass, the bonds between the members get stronger. If you were to create a volleyball team, who would play what position?
Masuda: Tegoshi would specialize in receiving! The reason is that he seems like he’d be quick on his feet. (laughs) I want a position that requires me to hit a couple spikes every now and then. Kei-chan (Koyama Keiichiro) is suited for being the setter.
Tegoshi: You can say that again. He tends to take over, so I think he would be able to serve an awesome toss. So then who would be the ace?
Masuda: Well, that’s Nishikido-kun, of course! He’s the type that would say “Leave it to me,” trying to be manly. Yamashita-kun would be our front center blocker. Because if he’s right in front of them, the other team would be hesitant and say, “We don’t want to hit his beautiful face” and they won’t spike the ball as much. What about our “mood maker,” Shige?
Tegoshi: BENCH!! He’s smart, so he could think about the other team’s tactics.
Both: Hmm, but if we made a volleyball team our individual personalities would be too strong and we’d end up being weak instead. (laughs)
